anybody tell me how to crank up the fuel? need just a little more pull.

Follow the governor linkage down to the left side of the block. There is a set screw under a dust cover. Loosen the jamb nut and back out the screw. It lets the rack travel a bit farther at full load for a bit more power and much more smoke.

how does one get that freeze plug lookin cover out?

You just have to knock it out and replace with a new one... Your local Deere dealer can fix you right up.

It has been my experience that more fuel doesnt really do anything except make smoke. You may want to make sure that your old oil bath breather is not plugged from years of dirt and grime.

Most pullers use a dry filter element.

Try the adjustment on a dyno. The will have wet cylinder walls from unburned fuel. And 2-3 HP more max.
