On the john deere 730d which trans. is best for pulling, the high or low speed? How do you identify which is which? Anybody know what the speed would be with 18.4x38 or 16.9x38 with the differant trans.?

I pull a 730 d with 16.9x38s and it has the high speed tranny (1st across from rev). I pull from 8500 and 10000 in stock classes it does fine . Its not gonna compete with the big motors that people call STOCK that are not . I ve never tried 18.4s not sure i would have enough power with the fast tranny.

 

[720 puller]

I run a 720D on 18.4x38 tires and it has the low 1st gear. 1st gear is at top left and 2nd gear is across from reverse. I run second gear 90 to 95% of the time and my track speed in second gear at 1500 rpm is about 2.7 mph. As to which transmission is better, that depends on your local tracks and the classes you are going to run in.

I ran both trannys with my 720LPs and prefered the low gear for when the sled got heavy.Doesnt matter which one you buy because its so easy to switch gears

 

[4010 puller]

engine modified any? Whats it weigh bare? I know what you mean, nice tractors but if you can run a 4010 its hard to have at least 30 more horsepower with 1000 less pounds.
