770 Power Booster?

I"m new to Oliver ownership, so please bear with me.....I have a 1964 770 rowcrop, and like it a lot so far....the power booster really works well for pulling gravity boxes. My question involves the power booster mechanism....if it goes bad, is it possible to operate without it? I"ve noticed the transmission is difficult or almost impossible to shift sometimes without pulling the PB lever back....so basically, if you decided to run without a working PB unit, you would have to keep it in low range (PB lever back)?? I ask this as I assume the repair to this unit, which appears similar to an IH torque-amplifier, would be quite expensive? Hopefully mine will not encounter problems for a long time, if ever, but thought I would be prepared if it does.....any thoughts?

Yes you can eliminate it, you will need another output shaft from the clutch to the transmission, and another input shaft for the transmission, it sounds like alot of work but its really not. if you need these parts i will trade you everything you need to do it for the power booster plus a little money to boot

The problem is, if it goes out, its usually the low side (lever out) that fails- so you can continue to use the tractor in direct drive, but then you have the problem with getting it out of gear if you get in a bind.

It may be normal to have to pull the PB lever back to get it to shift becous it holds the load of the tractor when the lever is forward it free wheels in the pulled back range it will also free wheel when you go down a hill the engin will only hold you back if you have the PB lever forward so dont pull the lever back going down a hill expecting it to slow you down
