I have a friend who put a 800 engine on a 400 trans with a 730 flywheel bolted together fine but hs no freeplay on clutch. does he need a 400 clutch?

never thought of that , one more question , if he has the clutch plate in backwards would that affect it, any other thoughts

Put one in backwards on a Chevy PU once (yes, beer involved, as well as excessive youth). After we re-did it the next day it worked but always shuddered. Replaced it 10 years later and it was fine then; we must have warped the disk and plate. Point is, if you did that, don't just put the parts back in correctly, replace them!

I am not sure where your incompatibility is, however, in late 1957, Case built the Case 400 Super. The super had the A1111 engine part number. (or the 800?s- 267cu-in engine) They used the 400 flywheel and clutch assembles. The above parts combination works, I am not so sure about your 730 flywheel and clutch set up?. The part numbers are different..

thanks for all your all your help i think they need a clutch from a 400 i told them that last year. if part numbers are not the same that tells me one from 730 will not work. I have not seen this tractor yet will investigate more. thank you guys for all your help on my 400 diesel am looking forward to making it purr.

Now I know because the part numbers are not the same they need a 400 clutch, I have not seen the actual tractor but will investigate further.
Thank you guys for all your help with my 400 case diesel head gasket, I can not wait to get this tractor up and running and making it purr
