800 fuel in oil

went to start up the 800 this past week after sitting for the winter and all of the fuel had leaked into the crankcase,I had about 8 gallons in there.Never seen that before(I know the shut off should have shut off) What am I looking at and is it abig issue? Thanks

Most likely a oring under the head in the injection pump has failed. It sounds like at least a seal job at the diesel shop. Another possibility would be the transfer pump could leak I suppose. The fuel pump head must be removed and there are internal timing issues within the pump itself to consider. At its age a good going over is in order. mEl

Was not aware that the American Bosch pump as used on the 800 ag tractor had umbrella seals as the Roosa Master pumps used. The last time I talked to a diesel pump rebuilder he stated that the AB pump had to be disassembled to repair that fuel leakage. MaybeI am in the dark about which pump it has on it but have never seen a Roosa equipped 800 and the Roosa is the only one that uses umbrella seals to my knowledge. Maybe you could shed more light on that for me.

Our 800 was doing the same thing, although not quite as bad. The fix was simple. In the transfer pump, which is held on to the side of the main pump with the 4 slotted head screws, are a bearing & seal. Both available & simple to change. We can help.

Had a 1212 DB that did that, it was the primer pump on it. Easy fix once I figured out what it was.

John and mEl??? , Are you guys instructing that the small 4 bolt Knights sheild shaped plate can be removed? and proper repair made without removing pump ,from engine and disrupting timing ?.//?? I have exact same fuel getting in oil problem on my 800 with American Bosch pump ..I Supposed that the entire pump would have to come off and go to Diesel injection shop to fix Properly , and no other fix was possibl. Have been delaying and dreading this job , because of the timing issues that damnear drove me and others nutz getting timed rite the last time this problem occured,,,, I remind myself turn off fuel when shut down ,, My fuel pump will lose prime if the 800 sits for week..

Jim, The 800 should have a transfer pump located on the injection pump with lines to it and a T handle type bypass valve opened to allow the pump to be bypassed during filter bleeding, when the bypass valve is closed, the treansfer pump supplies pressurised fuel through the system. The pump is near the bottom of the injection pump. I suspect that you are referring to a hand primer pump in which case you are correct, they were not so equipped. Jim, the leaky o ring below the head requires disassembly and retiming of the head assembly, I hate to recommend the average farmer/hobbyist to disassemble that area of the pump without having done it myself to determine the complexity of the job, maybe it is not as delicate as I think but the parts for these pumps are drying up and I think the proper course for most would be to have it done professionally rather than hurt parts that are rare to find. mEl

Jim: That square plate held in w/ the slotted head screws exposes the gear driven charge pump. It is a "field fix". The most difficult part is removing the fuel lines to it. It's self-explanatory once you get in there. Replace the bearing, seal & gasket. I did our 800, & my 18 year old son did his 400. We can furnish the parts. Nothing needs to be timed, but obviously, cleanliness is a must.

If it has the original pump, the transfer pump is the first place to start. Remove the 3 fuel lines that connect to the bottom of the transfer pump, and the 2 7/16 headed bolts and the pump will pull out. There is no timing involved, remove the gear from the back side, and you can see the seal. If you remove the 4 slotted screws and cover from the front, the gear will pull out and seal can be changed. I use a CR4231 seal. If the shaft where the seal rides is worn too much I"ve taken the housing to a machine shop and had it bored slightly deeper. Add a very thin coat of permatex to the outer edges of the gear cover when when you assemble or it will leak diesel. If you are still leaking fuel into the oil there is a head seal in the injection pump that can leak and would require pump removal.
