8010-8020 production

I know a guy that used to work at Deere. I see him at flea markets, and have no idea of his name. I think he told me they recaled all the 8010 tractors (I think 300) and when they left the factory they were 8020 tractors. I just can not remember where I wrote it down.

If I remember correctly he said JD folks will argue the matter, but he helped redo them. I will see him this fall probably.

Anyone know where to send me for this information?

Thanks in advance

I just read an article in Heritage Iron magazine that said the Keller's have the only 8010 that wasn't recalled and converted to an 8020.

Go to heritageiron.com Click on back issues and you can read the article from last month's issue that told about the 8010/8020.

This month's issue is where they told about the Keller's 8010.

Get the book "John Deere new generation tractors" from MBI.
This book tells that all 8010 (exept one) went back to factory to get a more rugged transmission and clutch and came back as 8020 tractors.

NE IA, I have been tracking 8020s for over 25 years. I would very much like to talk to this gentleman. We are having a 50 year celebration of the 8010's introduction at the Half Century of Progress Show in a couple of weeks. My email is open. If you will email me your phone number I would like to visit with you about the 8020s and contacting the the retied JD employee. Thanks, Roger

I don't know anything about it except that it is/was sitting at the back of the show area. I have not examined it closely... from a distance it appears to be a Deere in color and general shape.

For contact information for folks associated with the show scroll down on the site I linked.

My dad and I worked on the electrical system for an 8020 in the late 70's around Independence Iowa. We converted it to 12 volts with a series/parallel switch. I would be curious where that one ended up at.

Bob, I tracked the tractor down. It was a WA series Wagner painted green. The gentleman that owned it sold it a couple of years ago. Thanks for the lead. Roger
