To be clear, the late 50's 2-cylinder 830 or the 70's 3-cylinder 830?

If it's a 2-cyl diesel you are referring to, you might have to crank it over for several minutes to get that last bit of air
out of the lines. Never had any problems with my 820, but with the R, which I realize is a little different than an 820 or
830, I once had to put a little air pressure into the fuel tank to get it to fire up. Might be a little easier to do with a
starting engine, because you can let it crank over for several minutes with the cranking engine vs. only a limited amount of
time before running the batteries down with an electric start. Crank it over with the throttle fully advanced.
There may be some other methods of solving the problem but
this is just something I would try if it were me. I'm sure you will get some good advice on here. Good luck.

late 50's 2 cyl 830

1959 or 1960 .
It is possible to trace the serial number to find the build date , delivery location and particular options .
Will it run on one cylinder ?

I think I remember having to crack the
lines at the fuel pumps under the top
cover and let gravity push out all the air
bubbles. I can't remember if it was my 720 or 730. The 720 didnt have the return line that the 730 had which made bleeding easier.

ya but was it running before ? cause if it was just shut down it should be starting with just a filter change. if sitting the rack could be
stuck.

I had the same problem with my electric start 830 about 10 years ago when I changed the filters. What I did was belt up
the 830 to my JD 70 and run it a minute or two on compression release with throttle open. It started right up after
taking the compression release off. I have been told that having the fuel tank full or putting some air pressure in the
tank will also solve the problem. Like David from Kansa said, if you have a pony start you can just crank the engine
for a few minutes. Al

If it is like my 70 open the plug where it goes into the fuel rack. Let it bleed by gravity or crank it over. Watch for the
slug of air.

If it was running before the filter change and you have another tractor, put it in 5th and pull start.
