841 Powermaster 4 x 4 ????????

Maybe some of you can answer this question. Last year at one of our big shows the feature tractor was Ford. There was a 841 Powermaster that had a big 4X4 front end under it. My question is was this origional or was it home made. If it was home made they done an excellent job. If it was factory I didn"t know that was an option. Thanks for any info. Todd.

If you go to the tractor photos on the left , type in Fern or Elenco Fords , you will see some beautiful tractors . A guy named Fern in Cochranton, Pa rebuilds & restores Fords . He's done several Elencos , plus has an assortment in his own collection .Tony Jacobs bought the Elenco company years ago . He services & installs the Elenco front ends on various Fords . I saw a post about a year ago where Tony built up an Elenco front end for on a guys 8n . Wow what a beautiful 8n . Start digging now & drool like I do .God bless, Ken

The guy in PA that has done several Elenco restorations is Feron, not Fern. That might help with the photo search!

No the Elenco was NOT aftermarket!!! Elenco was an option, the same as the Sherman transmission was. It was made exclusively for Ford. The Elenco means Elwood Engineering Company from Ill.

Well I do believe it was still an after market thing just like the Sherman was. Ya made for the Ford but not made by ford. Yes could be dealer installed but still after market like the grader set ups for the Farmall M. After market means made by some one else to be used on something else. If it where made by ford then it would be ford but since it isn't and di not come that way factory it is after market as I see it

Sorry Old but you are incorrect the Elenco kit was made only for Ford Dealers and had to be bought through Ford Dealers but it did not have to be installed by a Ford dealer . It was approved by Ford and Parts could only be bought through Ford also not in the aftermarket . Shermans were not aftermarket either because there was nowhere else to buy them except a Ford Dealer . Generally aftermarket can be purchased by anyone and bought anywhere . Thanks Tony Jacobs

That is really interesting to an old ford buff like me, we had a dealership, late 60's to the late 70's, we had thousand series new on the lot, but before we owned it, they sold a lot of hundred series, and the earlier ford tractors, it was one of the biggest dealers in the area for a long time, Brown's Garage, then Alpine Ford Tractor & Equipment when we had it, now I was a kid at the time, but we had 4 full time mechanics, 2 parts counter people, + others, did a lot of parts and service work, can remember seeing most models, fair amount of hundred series, in the shop at different times, but never saw one of those Elenco equipped tractor in all those years. I never even saw any literature on them, we had 2 giant parts books that took up a big part of the parts counter and quite a bit of dealer related information as well. Kinda missed out on those way back when.

Just because you could only buy it from a ford dealer still does not make it a ford option. It is still after market because once a tractor is at a dewaler it is on the market so that kit was a dealer option as in aftermatket dealer option

Well Old if you read my post I did not SAY it was Ford option I said it was APPROVED by Ford to be SOLD or INSTALLED by a Dealer and it is not AFTERMARKET because it was not AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN THE AFTERMARKET if you know so much about MY BUSINESS maybe you should buy it and show me how much you really know , after all I have only run it for the last 20 years and if I did not buy it from the man who started the business he probably would have taken it to his grave . I would say Thanks but I am sick to death of correcting my posts over and over again .
