8420 Case round baler

Does anyone have experience with this baler good or bad? We are thinking about buying one to make small rounds for our horse customers who can't move our 5x6 bales with their compact tractors. Can the bale diameter be changed or are you stuck with the 54 in diameter. We would like to make a 39x42 (400lb)if possible. Thanks

I have one. Use mostly for my beef cows. The 500-550 pound bales are enough to move in mud/snow with 2 wheel drive. You can make smaller bales OK. If you are moving them numerous times use lots of twine. Store inside is best. Doesn't require much Hp but good hydraulics to open/expell bale. Good luck. John

Case 8420 is the same baler as Hesston 530, 5530. You can make the bales lighter, but I found out that some of the lighter hay in summer the bale may weigh as little as 350 lbs, even at full size. I can get most bales rolling, by myself with no tractor at all!
