850 oil capacity

Hello, I have an 800 series 850, I'm
going to put Ford 134 for the hydraulics.
80W-90 for the tranny and rear end, and
15W-40 for the engine.

Could anyone help out with how much oil
each section takes?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Easy question. Check page 60 of your owners manual.. it has all the condensed service info you need for the care and feeding of your tractor!

Crankcase oil.. 5.5qts remember the oil bath air filter

Hyd sump, 9qts

trans, 7.5 qts

Diffy, 11.5 qts ( it's bigger than the 600.. etc.. )

If you have an owner's manual, it's easy to look up as Soundguy has said. However, for some reason the capacity specs got altered a little with each succeeding issue of the owner's manual. Why? I don't know. Here's what I've found.

1954 edition, Form SE6085
Crankcase: 5 quarts (+ 1/2 for the air cleaner)
5 speed trans: 7.5 quarts
Hydraulic sump: 9 quarts
Differential: 11.5 quarts

1955 edition, Form SE6085-A
Crankcase: no change
5 speed trans: changed to 8 quarts
Hydraulic sump: no change
Differential: no change

1957 edition, Form SE6085-B
Crankcase: no change
5 speed trans: changed to 8.5 quarts
Hydraulic sump: changed to 8 quarts
Differential: no change

Those final numbers were kept unchanged through the remaining editions of the manual (for 601/801) series. Form numbers SE6085-C, -D, -E, -F, and -G.

So which numbers should you use? Your tractor, your call.

Oh man, thanks so much for the quick
reply! I really appreciate it.

This tractor was generously lended to me
and I just want to do some maintenance the
true owner hasn't done in years. He'll
appreciate it and so will the tractor.
Thanks again!

The trans is the one that will make the most difference.. looks like in the end it is a quart higher. I wonder if there was a change to later castings? or if gears were not getting enough lube picked up to the top / slung around.

In the hyd sump it doesn't matter as much as you can overfill the hyd sump quite a bit in order to make up for a loader or aux cyl displacement.. etc.

A NAPA 1004 cartridge filter will fit the OEM crankcase oil cartridge canister.. if it has a spin on filter, a fram PH8A or motorcraft FL1A or a napa 1515 or napa 1452 will fit... I prefer the PH8A or FL1a filter..

how often should you change these different fluids? and where is the drain plug for each? i have had problems finding them. thanks guys!

Hey..I commend you on using the differrent types of oil...the 134 should be used seperate than the 80/90 as time passes seals get limber/worn.
