what are the valve size differences between a 88 gas and a 880 gas head? what is the valve stem diameter?

They are all 3/8 inch stem size. Head diameter is about 1/4 inch larger for the intake, exhaust valves are also about a 1/4 inch larger in diameter. If you are going with new valves you will probably will need to change retainers as the later valves use single groove keepers, plus you will need to measure your installed height and compensate with the new valves as there are difference in length.
