880 governor

I think my governor on my 880 gas needs repaired or replaced. the engine seems to be running erratically. how much of a job is it to pull this off the tractor. what needs to come off first? thanks

Unhook the linkage, take the bolts out and pull it out. On the back side of the gear there should be a bronze wear washer. Make sure that comes out. Sometimes it comes out with the governor sometimes it sticks to the housing and you can just reach in with your finger and pull it out. If you're unlucky,as you pull the governor out it can fall down inside the housing. I've been lucky enough when that happens to put a hook on a piece of wire and fish it out. Pulling the governor out has nothing to do with the timing
