880 quit cold while discing

I'd appreciate some thoughts on this: I was discing along nicely on Sunday afternoon when my 880 just quit cold--no sputtering, etc., as though she was running out of gas. For good measure, I put 5 gallons of gas in, and she turned over strong, but no fire or spark whatsoever. I checked the wires and nothing is "obviously" loose/broken. What's going on? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Check for spark at the plug , If you have none try and run a hot wire from the positve post on your battery to the DIST. side of your coil , crank the engine and check for spark or just try and start it. If you still have no spark check the points to make sure they open and close while the engine is turning over . Still if you have no spark swap out your coil .

Sounds like my 880, on mine its usually the points are burnt. I don’t know why but it seems to eat up points fast. With a small screwdriver open the points enough to see if there badly pitted? You can also with the distributor cap off and dust cover try cranking it an set if points are sparking?

Check the coil,they will get really hot and shut down till it cools off.Had that happen to me on a 880

A wire from battery positive to the dist side of the coil will likely make more spark than you want and not where you want it. Be careful!
