880 vs. 560 or 720

I am wanting to set up a tractor to compete with the 720"s and the 560"s in the local 6800lb antique class. These tractors are strong runners and run probly around 70-80 pto horse in my estimation. They 18.4x34 and 18.4x38"s. my family now farms with deere but ran oliver diesels from 1951 through the 70"s so that is what i would like to use.

The easiest way would be to put a 310 gas motor from an 1850 in it or a 320 motor from an 1100 MF and they will never know any difference. They will fit right in. They are getting rare though as a lot of guys are doing this.

I can get ours in the 5500 class with 15,5's on pressed steel, and it has a wide front. I think it depends on how deep your wallet is as to how good you want to compete with the other guys. Good luck.

If you dont mind spending money ive got a friend that got 400 cubic inches out of his 77. Requires milling the block out for john deere 4020 sleeves and stroking the crank. Also you can cut the backside of the camshaft to acheive .070" more lift on the valves. Cutting the cam and going with the 3 7/8" m&w sleeves would be your cheapest route and you can gain alot of extra power.

How do you avoid spinning out every time

we had quite a time getting the hitch height right but yes we spun out a lot and then we stood up on the line a few times! Sure was fun figuring that out because I knew with weight that thing pulls good!! I don't remember the hitch height and length at this moment and probably won't until we put that thing back on.
