Looking at a 884 with 3500 hours don't know much about them could anyone tell the pros & cons and what it might be worth the tractor is a rocrop with a QT loader

Never owned one,

However, the 84s are the "utility tractor" equivalent of the 86 line.

There’s absolutely nothing "row crop" about 'em. Smaller all the way around and non-adjustable tread stance. Think they might have came with a smaller 4-pop engine too?

Those Quickie loaders seem to be a pretty fair outfit.

Hi T Clark, never owned a 884 but my brother has a 684 which has same chassis just smaller engine. The engines are good for greater than 10,000 Hrs. The only things to check are the parking brake, foot brakes and the T/A. If parking brake will not hold then someone has driven tractor with parking brake on and there will be chewed up parking brake material in the transmission/hydraulic oil. If it happened a long time ago the material will have settled to the bottom of the transmission or been trapped in the hydraulic filter.
Check all the hydraulic functions, power steering, brakes and loader.

A year ago my brother paid $9700 for a 3230 without loader and 900 Hrs. 3230 is same chassis but 50HP D206 engine and 2 generations newer.

We had a 685, and now an 885, same as 84 series with slightly updated sheet metal and CIH decals. I disagree with Allen on this, as both have adjustable axles. Biggest problem we had with the 685 2WD is the steering cylinder. The front end was just too light with the loader and the cylinder failed. The 885 has MFWD so that problem is solved. I have heard others say that the clutch is a bit weak on this model.

Hi Allan, The 84's are row crop, I have a 584 and 684, They have adjustable fronts and the same rear axle as the M thru 560. Have a 2255 loader, works good except it came with a Joy-stick control which is a joke. Didn't take long to throw that away. The only thing I don't like about the 84's is the 3point and that you set down between the fenders in the heat and dust. Good luck, Chuck

84 series were available as row crop or utility. My 584,684 and dads 584 and 685 and the CaseIH 585 I had all have sliding rear wheels just like old Farmalls and adjustable front straight axles. The utility version has adjusable front axles, but are swept back. The rears have to be turned around or move the rims on center dish to adjust. All 84 series tractors are 4 cylinders excepy the 484 which has the D-179 3 banger.

Chuck, thats one of the reasons I bought a 686 last summer. On the 84,85 series you sit so low and close to the engine you'll almost fry on a 90 degree day. Very reliable tractor though. Our 885 has 6000+ hours with only minor repairs.
