8N, 8 volt battery charging

This has likely been asked before, perhaps someone can steer me to a post or article- Older friend has an 8N that never started well, he ended up with an 8 volt batttery which works better, but now we need to set the charging system to maintain the 8 volt battery. I know it's been discussed, but I don't recall the specifics. Any help would be much appreciated!

Adjustment of a vibrating contact voltage regulator is largely a lost art. This is, of course, a powerful argument against the use of an 8V battery.

Someone with a decent analog voltmeter (cannot use DVM), patience and time can learn to do so by trial and error but access to the regulator on an 8N is not convenient.

He will need to adjust the voltage coil (small wire) to about 9.5V on the voltmeter with engine at operating RPM.

Thanks! You've reminded me I have a voltage regulator book out in the shop too.

ou are all welcome. Even with good info, making good adjustment is a slow/tedious process. May the 'Force' be with ya!
