It has been running good. When the starter button is engaged, there is no response what soever. No response on the amp gauge either.(12volt) I jumped the starter and it spins over good but there is nothing on the amp. gauge.
Anybody have this happen?
Thanks Murray

The ammeter only shows the starter solenoid current, not the starting current. Because the 30 amp meter would fry trying to carry 300 or 400 amps of starting and if it was made to carry and indicate the starting current you'd never see the charging current.

Your start switch to starter solenoid circuit is bad, which includes the switch. I don't remember there being a transmission interlock but if there was one its also suspect.

Depends on what you have for test equipment. Basically you check voltage with a meter or a test light (I like a 50 watt 12 volt RV lamp in a socket that you can buy in the RV department at wally world for the test light). One side of meter or lamp connected to chassis, the other used to probe the circuit. Then you follow the power from the battery to the ignition switch, and to the starter switch, then to the solenoid. You fix whatever you find bad. If you find power at the solenoid but no click, then the solenoid coil appears to be bad. A starter shop can fix that.

I had an 8n once and its starter got to working poorly. I took it to the local auto electric shop and demanded new brushes, bearings, bendix, and solenoid. It worked fine after that, cold or hot.

Followed your advice, as I was fiddling at this I noticed a small arc at the positive cable end.

Simple little solution to complicated problem
Thanks again Murray
