8N Gasoline

I own a Ford 8N and I was wondering if it is okay to run 85 Octane-Unleaded in it? I"ve been told that this blend is okay however I need expert advice....Thanks Jon

Jon......would you believe the 1939 low compression (6:1) 9N engine was designed to run on 70-octane white gas. (ethyl was expensive) So yes, regular grade (85-octane) unleaded gasoline is just fine in yer low compression (6.5:1) 8N engine.

HOWSOMEVER: there has recently been complaints about modern 10% bio gas being nasty to rubber gas parts. Your N-carb does NOT have rubber innitt except for some viton-tip float valves.

Recommend adding a long term gas storage additive like "Stable". Why? 'cuz thanks to the EPA, modern gas has a tank life of 1-month and then turns to varnish which does clogg yer carb gutts. Yer fuel tank hold 10-gals.

ALWAYS turn the under the tank fuel valve OFF. Gravity never sleeps, eh? ......Dell

It will run fine, Jon.

It will also boil in the fuel tank if you work it hard on a hot day.

I run a mix of 87 and 93. I also have always added stabile and lead additive. I know ppl say you don't need to however that is how it's been done on our farm for years. It's all she knows

Most likely that "lead additive" is merely more alcohol/ethanol. (More bad stuff for your fuel system that does absolutely nothing beneficial for an old tractor like these.)

Thanks for the ideas, I've already bought "Stabile" and am considering a lead additive... My buddy, who is also a tractor mechanic says that 85 will run fine. He has an 8N in his shop that was run on Aviation Gas (about 105-110 octane) and the cylinders now have no compression!! I mena what did this guy expect to do, fly his 8N?

I don't know the utility of a lead additive, but from my experience since "unleaded" became the rule not the option we have had no problems running the tractor as to whether lead was an issue or not. If you want to do it, go ahead, but I don't think it necessary.

Lead additives are snake oil.Label will say petroleum distillates. That translates to diesel fuel and kero sene.An engine with no compression is worn out or has a stripped timing gear.
