8n HELP again!!

So it seemed I had the electrical issues fixed on my newly rebuilt 8n. But... The engine runs great when I jump across the poles of the resistor (basically bypassing it) but if I let the juice go through the resistor it is almost impossible to start and runs horrible. So what have I tried already?
-new resistor
-fully rebuilt engine
-new battery
-new wiring harness
-points cleaned and set (though they are an older set)
-new battery cables (though the + one is not the biggest it could be)
-spark plug wires attached correctly
-new plugs and wires
So, could the coil be bad? Ideas?
Thanks, Dave

And what resistor are you talking about? The OEM ballast resistor on top of the terminal block or something else?

Dr Dave.........when you by-pass the "infamous ballast resistor" you are making hotter sparkies and the engine starts and runs more better.

So based upon yer descriptions, YES you could have a BAD squarecan frontmount coil. When you by-pass the ballast resistor, you MELT the insulative tar and short out some of the primary windings. There is NO correction for melted tar except byte the bullet and a NEW squarecan ignition coil and ALWAYS use the MANDATORY "infamous ballast resistor" ...or... you will be replacing yer squarecan coil again.

NOTE: there are 2-vigrins of squarecan coils. The original 6-volt coil ...or... the modern 12V squarecan coil. BOTH require the same "infamous ballast resistor".

2nd cause of weak sparkies is yer weaksister ignition switch ($10, cheap) ........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Also are your new plug wires solid core or braided? These old N's do NOT like the new-fangled braided wire spark plugs!

John........the Doc is happy as long as I keep taking 3mg of rat poison (Warfarin) tnx fer askin' ........limpy Dell
