(quoted from post at 01:35:26 10/06/17) " plus i did the spark on the voltage reg like ive done dozens of times and no spark"
That just polarizes the generator; it won't help it start.
" as soon as i let off the starter button it dies." That is a classic symptom of low voltage. Your starter is taking all the voltage leaving none for the spark plugs.
That is likely caused by:
1. A weak battery (charge it & check it per tip # 49. Or get it load
tested.)*
2. Dirty grounds/connections (remove the cables & clean the connections)
3. Bad cables or incorrect sized cables (replace them - see tip # 41)**
4. Bad ground between the starter & the block. (pull the starter away from the block & clean the mating area - see tip # 36)
5. Defective starter (but that's last on the list of possibilities)
ok iv done all 4 things and it still will not run when i let off the starter button.
the load test on the battery was better than the rate on the battery sticker ,625 , at Advance 675.
cables were cleaned and the positive ground at the frame was sanded to shiny metal.
starter where it meets the block was clean but i sanded it a little anyway.
the starter turns the engine fine just dies as soon as i let off the starter button.
it seems like it has to be electric related but i cant see where.
i took out #4 plug and had a good spark.
thanks
* No matter what else you do, the battery must be fully charged. A float charger is helpful; not a trickle charger, but a float charger.
