I know this is a subject that gets beat to death, but here goes:
I am ready to paint the sheet metal on my 49 8n. I had planned to use Tisco 240 because I thought it was the closest to the original color. I do not know that for a fact, just what research has yielded. My parts supplier for my restoration has ran out of gallons, only has quarts. 1) how many quarts on average does it take, 2) What other brand of paint is a close match? I looked at a Van Sickle paint which said medium gray, but looked too dark. Maybe, maybe not, I don t know. Help! Thanks in advance!

someone decided my 2N needed to be a redbelly. would you consider painting your 8N all 9N/2N gray to help make up for that sort of nonsense? i'd be in your debt ;)

The TISCO brand is made by Van Sickle and is a good oil based enamel for the budget minded. However, most all FORD TRACTOR for RED are too orangey. The Best, closest
match is the TISCO TP-110 IHC RED -see my 8N pix. The TP-240 is close match for the MED GREY. Original paint shades were FORD VEMILLION (RED) M2822, and FORD Medium
Grey, 13243.

CLOSEST MATCH TO FORD VERMILLION (RED) IS TISCO IHC RED #TP-110.

Other brands are close like the CNH Iron-Gard but note it says 39-62; that is wrong. FORD used the Dark Grey, M-2888 from 39 thru 47.

Brands and colors are two totally different topics. All colors come in many brands and all brands come in many colors. Never put cheap paint over a fifty hour prep and never put expensive paint over a five hour prep. Decide first how long you want it to look good and then select the type of paint that will give you what you need without breaking the bank, then go to the store that carries the type of paint that you want and select the color. At the cheap places you have to go by what is available but when you get into a little better paint you can get any shade of any color.

I just painted my hood just because it was all rusty and scabby... I wire wheeled off all the scabs and looked in the paint cabinet, my girlfriend keeps it stocked with all kinds of colors for her yard crafts...

It was a hard choice between hot pink, aubergine, white, moss green or dark blue.

I sprayed it with the moss green, but it looked too much like a JD hood. So I opted for the dark blue.

I'm not real big on originality.

Dress for Success[/i:b459927839], John T. Molloy"]Green is the forbidden color.

the hot pink would have been a bold statement tho :D

Agree 100% on the Ford red color being too orange--I found that out a few years ago, when I recoated the front bumper on my 8N. (The thing practically glowed in the dark!) The TISCO equivalent is much more appropriate.
