8n paperwork from Ford

This maybe a long shot but here it go"s. I am doing research on my dad"s 48 8N so I can restore it. And I was wondering if Ford has any archives department like Pontiac and some other car companies have for the cars of the 60"s and 70"s using serial numbers? I am looking for info like place of purchase etc. Also I was told once that some dealers gave a (safari type) hat to purchasers of tractors. Has any one heard of this? Thanks in advance for any info.

I've always heard that Ford destroyed a lot of records on purpose & some were taken by fire at one of their plants. You might get lucky checking with local dealers if any are still in business but that's a longshot too.
None of that info will matter in restoration though since they were basically all the same. There's many here who can answer any question you may have. A serial number & a pic will help.
Good luck.

ive seen 1 of the helmets, just 1, as far as any paperwork i doubt it,as tractors only had a bill of sale at the dealer, if even that, remember those were the days when cash talked, and a man ment what he said and said what he ment and a handshake was as good as gold,

Yes, Ford has archives in Dearborn. They are open to the public on request. Let them know what you are looking for ( blue prints ,etc) and they will dig out the files for your visit.

Liars and crooks are not an historically recent development. Thomas Edison cheated Nikola Tesla out of $50,000 -which would be well over $1M today -and then mocked: "He has a lot to learn about the American way of doing business." Apparently, handshakes were not so solid even in 1880.

Ya and the sad thing is they call Edison the father of electricity but that title should in fact go to Tesla since Edison wanted to use D.C. power which needed many relay stations but Tesla' idea used transformers and high voltage to get around the problem of line loose. Edison mocked the idae of high voltage and said people where going to die because of it

Thank both of you, old, and kev8n, for those posts!!!!

They are SO, "Right On The Money"!!!!!

Tesla was the genius, and was totally F...ed!!!!
(He died a pauper)

Public schools teach mostly crap and lies.

And the winners are the ones that get to write the history books.

Am I the only one confused here?? I thought we were lookin' for the background on an old tractor in this post.....

Thanks for the replies and picture. My sister has a helmet similar to the one in the picture but it has a light green cloth cover with no logo or wording. Dad always wore it when on the tractor. Probably one he just pick up unless they offered different ones.

Mike.......pith helmets were quit common in HOT desert climates. Did NOT work too well in rainy climates. Its the pressure formed CORK that adds "insulation" to keep from baking the ol'brain. Post Office had gray, US Marines had OD green, white was the most common as it reflected light and heat best. Stencil or paint it enny color that pleases you. Now tractors sales give away logo baseball caps (that'll fry yer brains) .......Dell with no pott to pith in and a speach impediment (grin)

The things you learn here! :)I always thought a Pith helmet was for jungle climates. They protected the wearer from monkeys up in trees pithing on them. :)

Dell, you crack me up! I read these posts every day. Not only do I learn a lot about my 41 9N but I get a good laugh as well. Thanks to all!
