8N won't Start, Smoking

I recently overhauled my 8N, new carb, points, plugs (autolite 437), condensor, plug wires. It was running, backfiring a bit, so i tinkered with it (bad idea i guess) Now it doesn't want to start. It makes a lurching noise when it's wanting to turn over, then when it does, it will only begin to start with the choke out, as soon as i push the choke in it dies. It will only chug for a few seconds and oil smoke starts to come up from the motor just as it dies. Any ideas?

It sounds like its not getting enough air.If the air cleaner is plugged or somehow its not getting enough air or maybe have wires on wrong spark plugs?1243 is the firing order and its real easy to switch 4 and 3.Take the intake pipe off and see if it runs then after you make sure you have it wired right for the firing order.Just my guess. After you do that if it runs you will need to clean out the air cleaner. You say overhaul but you dont mention rings, bearings, gaskets. If you did put rings in its going to smoke a while once you get it running. If its wore out so bad it smokes maybe you need to put rings in.A carb being set wrong will make an engine smoke. What color is the smoke?White is usually water, blue=oil, black=too much fuel or not enough air or both. There are exceptions and other circumstances that cause smoke of the wrong color to happen and fool you though but mostly thats what the colors mean.A carburetor being set wrong can make an engine burn oil.Your plugs are fouled now so you need new ones probably.

Click on the link below. That links to your prior post on the same topic and my response. Your problem hasn't changed & neither has my advice.

As I recommended on 9/5, determine if the problem is spark or fuel then post back w/ the results of that troubleshooting. And, when you do, make sure you tell us if the tractor is 6v or 12v & if the distributor is on the front or side of the engine.

Your new carb is stopped up.Most of the time if your backfiring it's either carb or firing order.I'm guessing it's your carb.Could be float stuck open flooding your motor, but my new carb had passage stopped up. 80psi blew it out.
