900 Case fuel issues

I have a 900 case diesel tractor with fuel issues. I had the fuel pump rebuilt and changed all the filters. I cleaned the fuel tank and blew out all the lines. I bleed the filters and start the tractor and it runs for maybe 2 minutes and stops. When I check the filters, the first stage filter is full of fuel but the second stage is empty. What is causing this? It will run, though not very well if I open the fuel by pass valve but after awhile even that doesn't work and it stops because it runs out of fuel in the second stage filter. Not good to do anyway as the fuel is bypassing the second stage filter and going directly to the final filter which will plug it up soone3r. Anybody have any ideas what could be causing this. Could it possibly be that something wasn't done properly to the pump during the rebuild lie maybe there's a problem with the fuel transfer pump. Just a thought. I'm at a loss right now.

That I will have to check on. Right now it's pouring rain here and I'm not on the farm so will have to wait till tomorrow morning when I can check on it. I do know that when i installed the filter i installed the filter with the lettering upright.
What happened initially last year when the tractor was running and then stopped was because the final filter was plugged up solid. That's when I changed the final filter plus the first and second stage filters and since then I have been having issues with it. This is when i thought it was a pump issue and had the pump rebuilt. What i will do tomorrow morning is turn the final filter the other way around and try that. Then I'll get back to you with the results.

On the filter block between the filters there is a plug about 15/16s in size, take it out and make sure the passage isn't plugged.

When I put in new filters on the first and second stage I took out the plug with the pressure relief valve and blew everything out so that's one less thing I have to look at but I will check the final filter tomorrow morning to see that it's not hooked up upside down.

The final filter should be with the rounded end on top and the end with the cap on the bottom.

That's NOT how the final filter is on my test stand. The rounded end is the bottom inlet, and the top crimped end is the OUTLET. Both ends are 1/4 inch pipe thread, and there's a one way check valve inside.

I'll be checking the filter this morning but from what I remember I'm sure I got it hooked up backwards. Will let you know later today.

I just checked the filter and on my tractor the rounded end or inlet is at the top as it connects to the line from the first and second stage filters and the crimped or outlet side of the filter is on the bottom where the line connects to the injection pump so it looks like the hookup is correct for flow. I even blew into the filter to see which way the flow is and the hookup seems correct. Going to put it all back together now and see if the fuel cap is venting

well, I found out what the trouble is with my 900 case. After checking absolutely everything it's the transfer pump on the injector pump that's not working. When the injector pump was rebuilt I guess they never tested to see that the transfer pump was working. Now they are trying to find a working transfer pump or parts for it. If they are unable to find replacement parts I'm out $1600 and have to search for a pump from a wrecker.

Just got a reply from ADF Diesel in Winnipeg where I took the pump. They said the transfer pump is not repairable. Basically all they did was take the pump apart and clean it and reassembled it and now I'm out almost $1700 for a pump that had no parts put into it, all that was done was it was cleaned. Now I have to spend more money to get a used pump somewhere.

That seems kinda cruddy on their part. I wonder what Dieseltech thinks...

I can get a used pump with a 30 day warranty from a wrecker for $800 or I can get a universal feed pump for $92 that will take the place of the transfer pump. will probably get the feed pump and install it on the line feeding the transfer pump as the pump is ok, just the transfer pump doesn't work
