918 flex head

What would cause a jd 918 flex head (when cutting beans) to keep bouncing up and down on the electric flex? I call it hunting.

Are you on DAM with dial the cab or the older electric header height style. If DAM if the middle "wipe area" in the box on the head gets bad it will hunt between high and low. Especially if accumulator is either weak or turned too far open on a strong charge.

Box on the rh end. Make certain the wiper arm hole isn't worn out sloppy. If that is ok take big fat pencil eraser to the board the wiper works on. Couple places for you to check. Maybe that rod running from end to end has excessive wear in its holders. Is the spring on the LH end, keeps the rod tight against the arms under flex sheets. Tom

It is on a 9400 combine, spring on left side is ok,arm is probably worn, I will check electro box and cleen.Thanks for advice,let you know how i get along.

Check the accumulator, I've had to turn the knob. It took the hunt out of it. The recommended adjustment is on the side of the combine or on the swing out panel try a half turn one way or the other may take a full turn. I run a 9400 and had that problem with a 915, the 918 runs smooth.

Pulled electro box ,the bracket that holds it in place at bottem was rusted out causing it to move up and down.Fabricated a new piece and going to weld it today.Weather permitting try it tomorrow.Thanks everyone for all the good advice.
