950 sold

The OLIVER Model #950, sure brought good money on ebay last night. $13,665.oo to be exact. Thats the most I,ve ever seen-sold. Last year a 950 6-cy. diesel sold by a couple of brothers, here in South Jersey, brought $12,000. A 2-stick, large rear tires and heavy hitch, recently restored. Went to California. I was a little surprised a 950 could bring that much money. I always figured a 990 with the GM engine was worth at least twice as much as a 950 and 995 Lugmatic was worth twice as much as a 990. That would make a restored 995 Lugmatic worth nearly 50k. That seems like a lot but I am aware of one that sold for 44k almost two years ago so maybe it is possible.

In the spring of 07', I passed over (the purchase), to a good friend, another collector of 99's & 990's, an OLIVER 995 LUG A MATIC. It was unrestored, but not to "shabbey" as my friend that bought the 995 Lug a matic said. It sold for $18,000.oo. On the Easteren shore in Maryland.

18k for a 995 Lugmatic sounds like a lot better deal than 13k for a 950 even if the 995 Lugmatic was un-restored. There aren't very many 995 Lugmatics and they are getting into firmer hands all the time. The word rare is often over used among tractor enthusiast but the 995 is truly rare. Did you know that in 1958 a 995 Lugmatic cost more than twice as much as John Deere's comparable 830 or IH's WD-9?

Sounds like a more realistic price. I think in some cases, some buyers are not willing to wait for a better deal.Good tractors still free up from time to time. Being patienat -pays!

Hey there, now that's a load. I'm guessing you make some noise at the tractor pulls. You have light weight hubs on all of them. The tires look awesome and just fit under the fenders. It looks like you got carried away with the clove white and painted that poor old Super 99 the wrong color. Why no decals on the Super 99 GM? Why no oil bath air cleaners on it either? You look like you must be a serious puller. Why do you have three set up similarly? Do you pull them in the same class? What I admire the most is your trailer but that's another subject. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Well I'll try to answer some of your QUESTIONS, I'll start with the "99" I entered uncharted grounds this past spring, I'm the first Detroit powered tractor that decided to pay a vist to the 7500lb. class, here in South Jersey. I'm still carying extra wts. Dry wt. is 6800.(no driver). As for the 990's, we have 1000lb. step ups-between classes, so I enter usually 1 in (antique)8500,9500, one 10,500. & sometimes I play around in the 9000lb. classic class. 2 hooks per tractor. I enjoyed a 27 year drought from modified tractor pulling. Reentered the picture in 06, pulling w/1 990 in the antique class. Just seemed like it made sense to go out to the pulls with a load, This gave my son & I something to do on the odd days off. I have to say here in a 50 mile radius there are as many Detroit powered Olivers & Massey 98's pulling as you'll see pulling any where.

Those must be the rare high velocity air flow grills. The tractor looks kind of sad like it wants to come out and play. I watch Ebay all the time but somehow I never saw that one. Must be slipping. Is you Super 99 GM a 1955? It came with the oil bath air filters so you must have them off to save weight?

Yes I have the oil-bath air breathers, just never got around to install them. I wanted to go out to the first pull as light as possible. The tractor was poorly listed on ebay. Not found-under "Oliver". The tractor been a lot of fun.....
