970 or 1070

Ok guys this is my Question, I have a 970 straight shift and a 1070 powershift. I am wanting to put together a puller for local club, probably going to put a 504 if I go with the 970, would probably just put a turbo on the 1070 but dont know how much the powershift can stand going to shoot for close to 300hp? I still need to use the tractor in the fall for cotton module builder, which one would be most dependable?

i would go with the 8speed.i've heard that by changeing a gear around in the tranny you could get 8speeds on the low side or if you had ample horse power 8 on the high side.one way or the other.Elmer @ Elmer @repair in centralia Kansas would know more details.might have to tone that 970 back a lot for the cotton harvest.haha!!But then we're talken about a case.work hard all week play hard all WEEKEND.FUN FUN

remove low side gears on 8spd transmission. Go get high side gears out of 1170 or 1175. Put them in old low side spot. There is some MINOR machining that needs to be done on high side gears to make them fit over shaft and thin them down a little to fit in place. VERY EASY to do if I could do it. Then old high side is now low range. Old low range is NEW high range. Splits old high range speeds exactly in 1/2 and gives you 4 and 1/2 road gear.
