i called the mechanic buddy of mine at six am today and asked him to have a look at it.he called at seven and said we need a pushrod.seems one of the pushrods had mushroomed out on top and was causing the problem.i found a used one and he had it up and going by two pm.my son went and mowed the rest of the hay down and called me and said it ran like a dream.

i told my buddy this morning what you guys thought the problem could be,he went right to the problem.i want to thank you guys a bunch for taking the time to reply.with your help i was back in the field before three pm.

Thanks for the update, I really enjoy it when someone posts back with what they found. Any ideas on what caused the pushrod to fail?

Well from what i have found that comes from the valve lash getting to wide and this is caused by a lobe heading south . Only time will tell on this one

the tractor has 5,000 hours on and came out of iowa.maybe it has too many hours?who knows?it has a new T/A in it.the rest of the tractor seems ok.it has a little blow by,not bad.

i will say that i noticed that it has an oil leak on the front seal.what does a bad front crank pulley have to do with a bad pushrod? i had never heard of that before.i can replace the crank pulley and seal next time it rains.should i look for any other damage from a bad pulley?what makes a crank pulley go bad? thanks in advance.

Has nothing to do with your problem not one teeennnnyyy tiiiiinnnnny bit . as for the ft. seal leaking best ya have that fixed , here ya need a puller to pop the ft pulley off the crank . This job can be den with out tomuch hassel and with out taking anything out of the road.

i know that when you push in the clutch that a red warning light with a gear inside it comes on on the dash.no problem.what does that amber light to the right of the red one with the round wheel symbol and the dash lines mean?mine comes on and stays on some times.

i sure do thank you folks for all your help.the reason i am having so much trouble is that i went from a 1952 M to a 2007 MXU 115 CASE-IH and i just now bought the 986 so i skipped a few years in between.

The front crankshaft pulley is the vibration dampener. There's a rubber ring bonded to the inner and outer pieces of the pulley. After many years and many hours, the rubber begins to seperate, and it no longer absorbs vibration. Bad things happen when the dampener fails. Crankshafts and camshafts break. For this reason, it's a very good idea to replace it any time you're close to it if it's got more than 4000 hours on it. I don't think it had anything to do with your pushrod failure.

That is the brake sensor lite.

Either the brake linings are getting thin or the sensor is out of adjustment.. Most likely needs new brakes.
