9n issues

Got the 9n back together. Head gasket, manifold gasket, adjusted valves. Runs as bad as before. Will only stay running with choke 3/4 on. This is the tractor that came to us with a stack of nuts behind the knob on the choke rod to hold the choke closed. But if you hold the choke at 3/4 the motor runs faster and faster to the point you think it's gonna run away. Even with throttle lever at idle. ( Does not help to adjust throttle ) linkage from governor to carb has been broken and welded at some point. Maybe a governor issue? Tried 2 different carbs. Both fresh cleaned and rebuilt. No difference. There does not appear to be a leak anywhere, used an unlit torch and never got it to speed up, although it's tricky having to work the choke to keep it running. Where else could air be getting in?? Slim chance inside of manifold is bad, broke or rotten? Looked ok when we had it off.....any ideas?

Grandpa Love, I would remove and check the manifold with the carb removed and tape mount over good with some duck tape to seal off carb flange good.Then fill intake ports with some water and look for a leak.From what you describe it sounds like the manifold has a leak.

hat hes suggesting is there is an air leak someplace in the intake system most likely a crack someplace on the manifold your not detecting. Just because it doesnt draw in torch gas doesnt mean there isnt a crack in it someplace.
