I will be restoring a 9n this fall, and I'm thinking of doing the sand blasting and painting myself. Would you guys have a good suggestion for a good do-it-yourself sand blaster and paint gun? I have a very good air compressor already that has an 80 gallon tank, so would be nice to get something that would work well with that.

Thanks

Well, most of us probably wouldn't recommend a sandblaster.

We would probably recommend electrolysis.

Look it up on Google.

See ifn this helps.

Sandblasting cabinets are relatively inexpensive and great for small parts. Get one that will fill your needs. Takes 15-20 CFM. A bucket type for large(outdoor)stuff is cheap, but makes a mess. Media is cheap.

Adam,

After searching the archives for opinions, I purchased a 2600psi power washer at Sam's Club for around $300. It is a Honda brand. Comes with 0,25,45 and 60 degreee tips. I added a 15 degree tip from Tractor Supply. The sprayer will cut the toughest grease build-up and will strip paint if you want with the 0 degree tip. Follow up with hand sanding where needed. I use an electric palm sander on the sheet metal after power washing. Wear eye protection with the power washer.

on my 2N I used a 4" angel grinder with a cup wire brush with
twisted wire for the rust and cast iron parts . i also used dollar
store oven cleaner ,spray it on let it set for an hour and a half or
longer rub with steel wool then wash off with water hose .repeat
if necesary. this will leave parts smooth and original where there
is no rust. when I removed the brak backup plate I found the
original gray paint untouched . Believe it or not it has a shine to
it when car polish was applied . Be cautious with the wire brush
it bites. pressure washer sounds good.sand blaster they say will
warp sheet metal and get in your motor and other parts if not
careful

I used a pressure pot sand blaster set up for all of my sheet metal work, wheel centers, and the dash when I had it off. For everything else I used oven cleaner to loosen up the paint and eat through some of the hard caked on grease, rinsed with high pressure, then followed up with a wire brush on a drill where needed.

I just painted this one and used a combination of tools as shown
