9n runaway throttle

Check the throttle and governor linkage.
Make sure all the springs are there and not broken/unhooked.
I would also check for binding while at it.
Can you run the throttle linkage by hand with normal results?
Does the governor resist when you try to run it manually?

Have checked all linkage and have installed new governor. With linkage disconnected and holding carb if you move to open plate it takes off.

Without being there, I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say
you have something wrong with that carb then.
I would think something simple, like the butterfly is not correctly
connected to the rod it screws to. So when you try to open it, the
butterfly just falls open. When you close it, the plate moves back
into place.
Of course that could be way off, but if it acts that way by hand
I think you can eliminate almost everything but the carb.
I am also assuming when you say "linkage disconnected" that
means all the linkage to the carb.
I'd take the two nuts off that hold it to the manifold and take a look.
The gasket in there can be made out of a gasket sheet pretty easy.
Or a piece of cereal box in a pinch.
I have even gotten away with re-using them if they're not too old.

(quoted from post at 11:57:20 08/13/13) Does the same thing if you run the throttle by hand.

(quoted from post at 18:44:58 08/11/13) I have disconnected all linkage and just use the lever on the throttle and get the same results fully closed is idle any movement of throttle causes engine to race. Governor had a broken shaft and instead of replacing parts in a 72 year old governor I bought a replacement.

WELL....if ya got the linkage off...then moving the carb thottle a slight bit, makes the engine race.....I am thinking that the throttle rod is installed incorrectly...OR, the throttle plate is on the rod wrong!!!

Take a couple of pix of the carb, showing the top of the carb, and the engine side of the carb.....THEN either post the pix on this post, OR email the pix to me , so I can look at the carb from those angles.
BTW: ....The throttle plate and or the rod CAN be in wrong, and will do just as you are reporting..!!!!!

My email button is always on, at the bottom of this post, in the modern side of this forum. Just poke that button, and start typing!!!

I'll try to help you either by email, or telephone!!!

IF YOU will do what I ask you to do, with the pictures, I will look at them and maybe help you!!!
I need to see what the linkage side of the carb, looks like, and a good clear shot of the thottle plate, from the top of the carb!!!

Not trying to be a SA, just trying to help ya!!!!
