9n runs rough

IONAGUN

New User
I have a 45 9n ford that runs real rough. I have changed the points
wires and coil. Checked the timing and put on a new carb. It still
runs the same. It is hard to start and when it starts it runs rough.
Any ideas?

IONAGUN.........first thing you do is quit throwing parts at yer problem. 2nd thing you do is the dreaded compression test. Ford specs; 90psi min (new engine is about 125psi) POST yer compression readings; 3rd thing; keep yer itchy-twitchy fingers off'n them handy-dandy carb tweek'ums. 4th thing; while the 4-nipple frontmount squarecan coil is not as robust as we'd like it to be; it takes about 1-hr fer it to go bad. 5th thing; change yer weak sister ignition switch ($15, cheap) It starts going BAD after about 15-mins of running; cures its self with 30-min cool down. .......HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Since you changed the wires, I would first check the firing order.
1-2-4-3 CCW. Real easy to swap 4 and 3.
If that's good, do you have good blue/white spark at the plugs?
If not you'll want to check the ignition circuit including the new points.
Especially if they were cheap ones with a plastic rubbing block.
If so, do you have good gas flow out the drain plug on the bottom
of the carb? Should run steady, not dribble, about a pint in two minutes.
Catch it in a container and check for water and/or dirt.
Let us know what you find.

Reading a previous post, I would check the air cleaner. Possibly check to make sure the exhaust doesn't have a mouse nest in it (BTDT)
