9N terminal block resistor

I have began the task of re-wiring my 9N front dist. 12V.

While removing the hack job wiring someone in the past did, I removed the small nuts that hold the terminal block resister in place. The porcilin resistor on the terminal block broke.

Do I need this in place even though I have an in-line resistor between my coil and ammeter?

The previous wiring guru didn"t wire anything to the terminal block and the tractor ran pretty darn good....

Thanks for any advice!!

I would guess you want somewhere close to 4 ohms total resistance (counting the coil resistance) to keep your current to the coil somewhat below 4 amps to keep it from melting down. Ballast resistor when hot should count as well - OK to have more amps (less resistance) for startup ease as long as the total after starting is correct.

milkman.......ALL squarecan frontmount distributor coils NEED the "infamous ballast resistor". DON'T ARGUE. Many 12v conversions also use a 12-to-6v converting resistor in series like flashlite batterys. Others use the modern 12v squarecan ignition coil which also NEEDS "infamous ballast resistor". Understand??? ......Dell, a 12v advocate for the right reason

I respect your wisedom of sparkie's...

Thanks
