9N Tractor Split Clutch Replacement

Clutch went bad last week while mowing, by bad I mean in pieces. Anyhow tractor is split and waiting on clutch kit. My question is how do you remove the pilot bearing and throw out bearing. I have the transmission with the step up. Any other advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Troy

Go to Home Despot or the like and buy a J bolt like they use for anchoring a house to the foundation. Cut the short end of the J so you can just slip it into the pilot bearing and hook onto the back of it. Clamp a Vise
grip onto the thread end of the bolt and tap the bearing out with a hammer. Use the same tool to hook onto and tap/remove the throw out bearing too.
Easy.

If all else fails in getting the pilot bearing out you can always pull the flywheel and knock it out from the other side.

I just hold the throw out bearing sleeve in one hand and hit the back of the old throw out bearing and knock it off the sleeve. Then to install the new bearing I place the bearing on a piece of soft wood and use a brass drift or hammer to drive the sleeve down on the new bearing. There is a slight raised place where the back of the throw out bearing fits onto the sleeve that holds it securely onto the sleeve.

to remove pilot bushing, squirt greese into bushing center, use transmission shaft, dow rod, or something of simular size to push into hole to force bushing out.

You could always rent a tool specifically to pull the pilot bearing from the flywheel. Would save a lot of time and headache. Try an Advance Auto if one is near you. I work for Advance, but don't know the part# for the tool off the top of my head.

OK, I got the pilot bearing out using wet newspaper and a socket. End up being a brass bushing. Still need help removing the throw out bearing from the bearing holder. Seems to be some sort of bearing cover on backside of bearing. Any ideas?
