A Blank Blank Steiger

Well, I will get my 9230 out of the shop. It has been there since the 1st of Jan. went in for a tune up. While there they called and said one rear axle seal was leaking and suggested have it fixed. So I said OK. What they found should be unbelievable. But when you realize the 9230 is not a Case, it’s a XXX Steiger., you’ll see what happened is normal. They found the seal had an internal snap ring with no way to remove. When case called the factory they forwarded them to the rear end mfg. They said that seal was not put on and it could not be. My case dealer finally got a hold of a old mechanic who had a note in his file. It showed that to remove that seal you had to drill holes in the housing tap the holes and make a internal puller to get the seal and brg. out. And then had to make a new end to put it back together. And guess what you cannot buy an new seal and bearing(not at all). Great engineering. My dealer just put the wheels back on and said just let it leak and keep it from running out of oil. What happened to the KISS way of doing things?

So, what do they expect you to do? Replace the whole axle to fix a leak? A seal and bearing that cannot be serviced is just stupidity. I wonder what bright engineer came up with that!

That Is NUTZ Jimmie,,. and another BIG reason , the 50 yr old tractors need to be kept up,,. btw ,, if it were my stieger , I would try lucas oil products ,, hubsealer, tranny sealer , or hydraulic sealer,,mite make that problem seal itself

I agree the older tractors at least could be worked on and a few parts like bearing and seals could be picked up at a NAPA store.

A bearing and seal that can not be serviced, WOW!

INTERESTING... FIAT parts on-line shows the part number as 33-1246T1.

I was at my favorite dealership today and had them run the number. He said he could have it in 2 or 3 days. Even called in to verify it's availability!

Key #5

Either you have a different axle, or somebody's blowing smoke!
Parts catalog page

My shop foreman says it"s a different axle and the rear end factory says they never made one like it. The parts you show, my CIH shop says is not it. Sorry

Well, you"re in luck! Someday it will be worth more money as a one-of-a-kind collector"s item!

On a serious note, check with the folks below. I have had NO personal experience with them, but they are RABA (Hungarian) and Clark axle dealers, and MAY know what you have/be able to help you. A neighbor of mine has the same tractor. Out of curiosity, I"ll take a look next time I get over there, and see if his seals have the external bolts.

Check with Anderson tractor or Bluffton Ohio. They may have the complete axle. Cheaper the IH bill you got stuck with.
