Brought home a couple more tractors for the collection. A 55 western special diesel and a 55 gas western special. Very little to be done to the gas but the diesel needs a bit of love. It does run nice.
Western special (masseyharris). Wheatland (IH/or Deere). They look like any other manufacturers Wheatland. I have been told Fairhope, Alabama had a Massey harris dealership at one time, but I've never seen a MH in Baldwin county.Brought home a couple more tractors for the collection. No that restored gas 55 has some extras on it. The neighbor that restored it liked to add his own touch to things.Stout looking tractors ! Is the brass trim on the front standard to that model ?

Yes. Different front axle and bigger tires are the major differences. And the hand clutch but I have seen a few Wheatland’s with a foot clutch as well.Western special (masseyharris). Does that mean you had an inside track on buying them when he was ready to sell? Nice haulNo that restored gas 55 has some extras on it. The neighbor that restored it liked to add his own touch to things.
It is a local tractor. A neighbor 3.5 miles away bought it new and farmed with it for years. Sat unused for a long time and his son asked me if I was interested in rebuilding it for him. Well at the time I was more interested in girls and pick up trucks so I didn’t do it. A bunch of years later he restored it himself and took it to parades etc and had a ball with it. After he passed away I mentioned to his son that if they ever wanted to sell it I would be interested. They finally came up with a price and I brought it home. The deal has been in the works for at least 15 years. But that’s the beauty of close neighbors that you get along well with. That tractor will be at our July first tractor pull guaranteed. The rusty diesel 55 was a deal that took three years. I mentioned to the owner that I’d like to find one like that because my dad farmed with one. He told me it would be for sale when he was done playing with it and he called me out of the blue about a month ago and put a price on it and it came home as well. I get quite a few calls about Massey tractors regularly because people know I’m a collector.Does that mean you had an inside track on buying them when he was ready to sell? Nice haul

Maybe a step to make it easier to dump gas in?Big power in there day, that gasser is sweet.
For what purpose was a step added below belt pulley ?
Maybe a step to make it easier to dump gas in?
That was my first thought but awful long reach with a jerry can over the pulley. The custom battery mount/hydraulic tank on the other side would be appear more accessible. Of course some protection for the finish would be required there also.Maybe a step to make it easier to dump gas in?
Nice looking tractors.Do you know where I could find an exhaust manifold for a 44-6?
