a dumb bull!

We had some excitement last night as our new bull decided to pull his feeder section from the wall and parade it around the barnyard.

That's me with the hacksaw.

It was pretty dangerous, actually, and we're lucky that he didn't stumble and break his neck. Two neighbors ran over and helped snag and chinch him to the tree. My wife, bless her heart, was right there in the thick of the action.

We freed him about five minutes after this shot was taken.

I hate that particular feeder design and will replace those sections with ones less liable to entrap the heads of cattle.

Because there isn't enough room in their head for all their dumb!

Self lockers work well once they're trained to use them.
If cattle were smart they'd figure out what we're doing with them.

Gee and i always thot it was so bulls would talk to them.

I found one of our bulls dead in a feeder similar to that. He slipped and hung himself. The insurance company said they would only pay if he died from an accident. I guess they figured he committed suicide.

Had a round bale feeder that had one hole a little smaller in each of the three sections and one of the bulls got his head stuck in them twice and I`d have to take a pipe wrench and twist a bar out . I went ahead and took the third one out after the second time .

I had a Limosine bull got his head stuck in a 14 foot gate. He ran around with it for a whole day while we tried to catch him. He finally got it off himself. Good thing he weighed about 2100 pounds.

i got rid of a good(?) round bale as cows would get their heads stuck in it.
i got one that is open at top made for horses. after i had to get neighbors to help get 1 out of it. it took 3 of us to get her loose.

our highland cow did same thing but down on her side & bloated big as a balloon. Thot she was dead but wasn't. Got it off of her & on her feet & she recovered shortly.
