I want to replace the "inertial engagement" starter on my 12 Volt "A" with a modern solenoid-shifted starter. (10MT Delco.)
Will a 10 MT from a 140 fit?
Parts catalogs show both the "A" and the "140" using the same part # 90-tooth ring gear.
I checked with the FIAT/CIH dealer and they claim the original Delco 1109353 for the 140 subs to a 104193A1R, which is apparently a 3-hole mounting starter originally used on certain CASE applications.
It IS the required CCW rotation and 10-tooth drive. If the two holes match, obviously the third can be ignored.
Has anyone done this successfully?
