A stuck in gear

I saw a tractor for sale today that is stuck in gear... is this similar to some of the posting that I saw on here? Could it be caught between two gears & needs adjustment? I know little about it, late styled, stuck in 6th?

They will do that some times . . . Does it have one shifter only, or one with the additional high/low shifter? Will the shifter not move at all, or will it move and try to put it into 2 gears at once? Or is the shifter waving like a sunflower in the wind? If you engage the clutch, will it move out in 6th or set still and try to stall the engine? Please understand that I don't know nuthin about transmissions really, but I have a 70 that does the same thing occasionally. I can usually get it fixed the easy way, but occasionally have to do the hard way. Hopefully a transmission 'pert will chime in too.

The best practice I've ever gotten with transmission experience is find or get and old parts B or A JD and take it down piece by piece. I know that transmission problems can steer away a buyer of a tractor, but they are not that bad to work on. Gears, shafts and bearings. That's it. The first I ever did was a 1939 B with 3 broken gears, they let tractor run out of gear oil. I just bought the manuals and took my time. Once you do one, nervousness is gone.
