Bremen brother and sister killed in crash

A 17-year-old Bremen boy and his 8-year-old sister were killed this afternoon when their minivan collided with an RV on U.S. 6 just west of King Road.

According to Sgt. Trent Smith of the Indiana State Police, Zane Triplet, 17, was driving a 2000 Chrysler minivan east on the highway shortly before 1 p.m. when it was involved in a near-head-on collision with a new Jayco motorhome headed west on U.S. 6 driven by Hazel Grant of Kokomo.

"The RV was heading to Virginia for a show," Smith said. "At this point, it appears that one of the vehicles crossed the center line … we just don’t know which one."

The impact destroyed the entire driver’s side of Triplet’s minivan, and caused the RV and a small car it was towing to careen into a corn field on the south side of the road.

Smith said that Zoie Triplet, 8, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Zane Triplet was transported to Community Hospital of Bremen before he was also pronounced dead.

Grant and two passengers in the RV, whose names were not released, were also taken to Community Hospital of Bremen for treatment of minor injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.

As of 3:30 p.m., traffic on U.S. 6 east of U.S. 31 was still blocked in both directions. Smith said it could be two hours or more before the accident was removed from the roadway, and advised drivers to avoid the area

You know, I feel very humbled reading this story, my heart goes out to the family of those two kids.
I reflect back to the problems I have been having today, the things that I have had going on that upset me and this really puts me back in my place. I feel ashamed of myself for the feelings that I have had over the past several hours. Those of us who are up and about tonight are truly blessed and I guess I just loose track of that sometimes.
I pray for the comfort that only the Lord can provide to a family during a time like this and at the same time I pray that he will look down on all of there friends as well and help them to cope with this sudden loss of life.
God bless you all with comfort you need at a time like this.

Sad day indeed but...what is it?...so many fatal accidents reported when a vehicle crosses the center line and hits an oncoming vehicle head-on. Plenty of possibilities...sleep, cell phone use, alcohol, distraction talking to a passenger and paying no attention to what is ahead.

Locally highway dept is installing 3-cable safety barrier in the median..but won't start work until 7-20...too late! Four killed just this week in same circumstance...head on. Sure wonder why.

Years ago, I witnessed a head- on collision. we were 2 cars back, and barely got stopped in time to keep from being involved. 3 people died, it was a terrible scene, really bothered me for a long time. To this day, I still keep a watchful eye at oncoming traffic..
