Im nearly completing my ''A'' with ''G'' head project.Need distance from head to inside of pushrod cup on ''G'' rockers to locate pushrod tube and angle on my custom fabricated block to avoid clearence issues when the 2to1 rocks. are installed.Do the pushrods on a ''G''go exactly down the center of the hole in the head.If not,how far off are they off,and to what side?I do not have any ''G''rockers to mock it up.This is a ''Deere''.Thanks for the info.

'Got a good repaired iron 426 hemi head gathering dust in my garage. With a little ingenuity and a sharp sawzall you oughta be able to service at least 2 deeres with it. Make ya a heck of a deal on both sides...

No,im not full of it.If you need pics.i can send them also.Just ask jdb puller. He's going to be the machinist. It is achieveable when you apply the mind.Im just looking for a simple answer.I thought this web site was to help others when they need a SIMPLE ANSWER,not to rip on em.

hot rod allis a hemi head on a 301 .does the push rods come out the side of the block like they do on a 292 inliner running 350 chevy heads welded together?

I'm not knocking your project, I am all for thinking outside the box. I have some pretty wild ideas for a 2 cylinder myself. My question is, what are you gaining by retrofitting a G head onto an A block?

To answer your question, what "G" head are you using, MMS or JD? If you change valves in a stock head and dont pay close attention to the stem length and make sure the new valves are the same length as stock, the pushrod cups will be in a different spot.

Just give the A head an Extrude Hone treatment. Bolts right on and flows more.
You are trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

WHAT ARE WE GAINING BY PUTTING A G HEAD ON AN A? BIGGER BORE WITH STANDARD HEAD BOLT LOCATIONS[6.875],AND NO SHROUDING OR TURBULANCE AT THE VALVES,DUE TO THE TUCK OF THE STOCK ''POWERBLOCK''.THEREFORE A LITTLE LARGER VALVE.I DECIDED TO GO WITH A ''STEEL'' BLOCK INSTEAD OF THOSE BRITTLE REWORKED CAST BLOCKS.UNDER EACH HEAD STUD THERES 1'' SOLID SGUARESTOCK THAT GOES FROM THE .750'' HEAD PLATE,TO GIVE A LITTLE MORE THEADING OF THE STUD TO THE 1'' BASE PLATE TO ELIMINATE THE HEAD FROM MAKING A NEW HOME IN THE RADIATOR! THE HEAD WILL BE MMS,OR FINISH THE ONE I HAVE STARTED TO BUILD.I LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE,[THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX],THATS RIGHT,FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!IF YOU DREAM IT,WE CAN DO IT! WE DREW THIS UP ON A C.A.D. SYSTEM AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT,THE WORLDS LEADING CONCRETE PUMP MANUFACTURER,IN WHITE BEAR MINNESOTA.I WORKED WITH THE ENGINNERS TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE STRESSES WERE GOING TO BE AND ADDED MATERIAL TO ELIMINATE WHAT WE COULD.ALL MATERIALS WERE CHEMICALLY ANALYZED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT FILLER METAL AND MATERIAL SHALL BE USED, WHAT SIZE WELD AND WHERE,HOW MUCH PREHEAT FOR THE MATERIAL PRIOR TO WELDING,ETC.IM CERTIFIED THROUGH MANY WELDING INSTITUTES AROUND THE GLOBE.IM PRETTY POSITIVE THIS ''POWERBLOCK'' SHOULD HOLD UP FOR YEARS OF POUNDING,BOTH IN THE FIELD AND ON THE TRACK!AS FOR THE PICS.,LEAVE YOUR #,I CAN SEND EM IN E MAIL.YOU,JUGGS,RAY,UNSTYLED FARM AND MAYBE A FEW OTHERS MIGHT DESERVE TO SEE EM,BUT THOSE HEMI GUYS NEAR THE BEGINING OF THIS TOPIC,NOT A CHANCE.AS OF THIS POSTING,3SIDES OF THE WATERJACKETS WERE FIT IN.THE FRAME WILL BE CUSTOM ALSO

Would a 20-30 series head be better to use?? I know its going to be a little shrouded on one side.. but that can be modified.. Just thining that the 2 barrel carb, with modified LP intake on a worked over head might be better... and you will have spark plugs in the head...
I've never looked at the flow ratings for the heads to know what is really better...

Crazy A, It sounds like a strange project for sure. I am just wondering wouldnt it be more cost effective to get a heisler? I guess if you care to fill me in on how it is better/more efficient to use a g head that would be great. Your project sounds interesting! You say you work for a company in white bear, do you live in that area?

how much are you gaining by using the g head instead of a heisler? dont take me wrong not knocking or making fun of, just curious. I am building an A right now, mine is just bolting parts on to make power, yours sounds fun

To me, and this is just my thinking here, but I dont see a whole lot of gain because whatever head you use, you still have to suck air thru the same dinky carburetor. I would be interested to see, all else being equal, how a G head with a single bbl carb would work vs. a worked over A head with a duplex carb.

It sounds like this is well thoughout and engineered and not just "cobbled together"

Email is open.

Drew it does sound well planned out, I was just thinking that after all the time and effort if it would be better to just bolt a heisler on and be done, that way you would have less machining, but me being very unknowledgeable and inexperienced in these I really dont know, and maybe hes on to something here. Have to wait and see, he is not that far from me, when its all together I will have to go watch it go down the track a few times.

Im thinking of going with a centrifugal supercharger,[paxton brand or equal to]and driving it with the fan shaft, pulling through one or two sled carbs.Need to play with it to figure out what carb combo works best, large or small, one or two.

I am about an hour....maybe hour and half east of white bear, so probably two and a half hours, but I would go that far to see it pull when you get it running right. Do you get over the river to the wiscony side for any pulls?

I'd love to see pictures of this. please send me some! [email protected]. thanks

no LBB you can't put an A head on your B so don't get any big ideas! Are you guys going to the river this weekend? I still need to fix mine but might go Sunday.
