AC D12 Hydraulic Problem

I noticed back in 1999 jim had the same problem with a D10 but I didn't see any detail solutions.

I have a Series III D12 (engine flg #D12-7101-R; mating flg #D12 9952) I aquired from my late uncle's estate back in '99. I did a complete tune up and it fires right up on the first lick every time. I have used it for misc. jobs around the pasture and the woods but have never got to use it for bush hoggin because the hydraulics come up and stay up with the smallest of rpm. I can idle it down all the way and it will leak down or when I shut it off it will gradually leak down. A tractor mechanic told me once to remove the small bowl down by the levers and cleaning it might solve the problem. Didn't want to do it without having other options which is why I am here. Can anyone help? Thanks Matt

Have you actually tried to see what happens with the weight of a bush hog attached? Sometimes the arms will come up on mine, but if I put the weight of my fat a** on them by standing on them, they go right back down as they should. If you have traction booster on the 3 point, check to make sure that the lever is down. Otherwise, you might have some sludge blocking the return port or the relief valve.

I forgot to mention that the problem still exists with a load on it. I hardly ever disconnect the bushhog. Evidently my uncle had a problem with it also because he had an engine block chained to the top of the disc attachment. I guess I'll try flushing it again with diesel and cleaning that bowl out this weekend. Thanks for your reply.
