The very early WCs had the power-take-off driven from the belt-pulley drive and there was a side-mount mower pinion on the bottom of the gear-box to drive the mower via a chain drive. It ran sort of diagonally back to the centre of the tractor over the drawbar. Sometime a little later (don't have the parts book handy to check serial numbers) then ran the pto from where the earlier mower pinion was located with the shaft running back under the torque-tube and under the differential where it is found on the later tractors.
