adjusting the steering on J D B

Havin trouble removing the sector stop pin so I can turn the Eccentric bushing to remove the wobble in the steering. Shop manual says remove, but, whats agood way to do that and not breake the housing? Thanks

Why would you want to remove the sector stop pin? It has absolutely nothing to do with adjustment of the eccentric bushing. In order to rotate the eccentic bushing, you must remove a small lock screw, flat-blade screwdriver, 5/16 thread, kind of a filister type head. Observe that there most likely will be a shim washer(s) under the lip of the eccentric bushing with a notch cut in it for the locking screw. So when the bushing is rotated, the shim washer(s) must be rotated along with it. Fail on this -- and you will be unable to reinsert the locking screw!

Bill: You can adjust the steering as posted, however you will find that the gear sector teeth and the screw gear will be worn in the center areas. I've taken a small file and clean up the whole teeth and worm to prevent binding when the clearance is removed....

if you could find a New old stock sector gear that would help alot, i put a new one in mine and the steering is tight as when it was new from the factory. Check ebay i've seen them on there from time to time
