i need to spread a couple tons of lime in a food plot. it is not accessible with a lime truck. will a drop spreader work?

My dad and I tried it about 35 years ago and no it won t work. The lime has too much moisture in it and it won t flow out of the spreader it just packs down.

we put sand out with a 3 pt mount pto driven spreader on a ball field. took all day because we loaded it bt hand with shovels. just curious if mixing it with sand would help dry it out enough to spread it easier. sand spread out on a concrete floor and left over night dries pretty fdast if you leave a big fan on it. mix the lime in and hopefully you have something to load it with.

Domite lime will work in it. Cost a bit more than quarry lime. 40 bucks a ton the last I got a few years back. Probably 80 now.. Used a EZ Flow and it worked fine.

YES - a drop spreader will work. I used a spreader that has a ground drive agitator shaft through the whole box. Pours great! BUT - YOU MUST USE **DRY** LIME.

I tried it with a 10' EZEE FLOW .....pretty much a disaster....yeah....I got a little lime spread....but there was 46 ton looking at me and I hardly put a dent in it ..spent more time with a screwdriver cleaning holes.....ended up getting a Stoltzfus...

The lime was right out of the truck but the plant analysis guaranteed 15% or less moisture...still too wet......otherwise the drop spreader will work well with other stuff just not aglime..

anybody want a 10' Ezee Flow with new tires for $350 in W. PA ??

Get a stoltzfus if the lime is wet. Dry lime might work...
We've had both over the years depending on the source. I much prefer the wet variety...

Don"t know where you guys are or get your lime but here it comes sooo dry it will choke a desert goat. I have used an ezee flow several times on small areas and worked fine.

I do about 3 acres a year and I use pellitized lime thru a 10' E-Z-Flow drop spreader. Been doing it for years with no problem. And the 50 pound bags are easy to handle. 20 bags would probably be plenty first time around. then have a soil sample done.

Drop spreader should work just fine. My Uncle tried to spread lime with a 3pt spin spreader one time.... you couldn't even see the tractor it made such a big cloud of dust!!
