air compressor problem

I have a small craftsman air compressor. it runs but will not build up any pressure. could anyone tell me how to fix it? thanks robert

First thing you'd want to check is the valves. One or both of them could be broken or warped, not closing when they have to.

It may be cheaper to just find a replacement, if you live some place close to a big city, you can find them in garage sales or flea markets.

I had one of those about 30 years ago, before the oilless ones. The headgasket would go out about every two months or so. The gasket from Sears only cost about .50 but it was irritating. I finally took some gasket material and made one. When I traded it off twenty years later, it was still good.

If it is a oil-less one, throw it away and buy one that has a crankcase with oil in it.

Robert,remove the filter assembly and spray a little lubricant such as WD 40,liquid wrench ect. into the cylinder.This will lubricate the seal and it should start building pressure again.This worked on one i have.Spray the lube and let it soak a few minutes before starting the compressor.
