air compressor wont run.

Bought a two year old CH upright 240 volt 15 amp compressor several months ago. Im just now getting it hooked up. Installed double 15amp breaker in panel with 10ga wire, fired it up and she went right up to 125psi and shut it self off.I began to blow out furnace filter and when air dropped down to 90psi compressor tried to start but only made loud buzzing and tripped breaker. I bleed all air from tank and pulled the belts to make sure it wasnt locked up.It still wont run only buzz. Please advise. Jeff.

Sounds like only one side is hot. Check voltage on both posts on breaker. You may also need a bigger breaker. 10ga. wire is rated at 30 amps. A double 20 or 30 amp breaker might be in order.

Another thought--are both sides of breaker box hot? You may have lost one side through the main breaker.

Just my 2 cents.

Motor probably seizing up..spin it by hand and see if it turns. If not, the capacitor is probably shot. Or, thermal break shut it off but I doubt it.

Sounds like it isn't unloading properly. Make sure the little needle valve on the side of the pressure switch properly bleeds off the air between the check valve and the pump after each cycle.

A lot of motors have a startup in the rear of the motor once it gets going the centrifugal force kicks it out, sometime it sticks and will not come back to start up...

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

Hey Jeff
If the compressor draws 15 amps you should have a minimum 20 amp double breaker. Make sure that one side has tripped. Starting Capacitor is your next place to check or starting switch. You also should be cecking the wiring connections.
Make sure the compressor is free to turn. Did it have oil in it before you started the unit?

Guido.
