Allis 190 Diesel Landhandler

What is the biggest issue with this tractor? Does it have the same problem with popping out of gear the smaller Allis tractors have? I do not know if this is a 190 or a 190XT. I might have the opportunity to buy one with the loader and would like to use it for the same chores we used a diesel 706.

We had a D17 and a 180 - the D17 was a good little tractor and easy to use and operate. The 180 wasn't as nice as it had a problem staying in 3rd gear and the power director seemed to be either 100% engaged or 100% disengaged - there was not easing it into gear as there had been on the D17.

Looking at primarily using it to run both small square and large round balers.

It will have a potential 3rd gear jump out going down hill with a push behind you. 190 or 190XT has the same transmission. People grinding them into gear all the time wears out the shifting dogs and 3rd gear is the most used selection.

It's prababaly a bad choice for a round baler because it doesn't have true live pto and I don't think you can shift using the high/low selector to back up. I had a 190 xt and my neighbor I was working for needed a tractor for his round baler since his 966 was down, so I offered to let him use my 190 but he declined since he said he needs to stop and back up so he used his farmall 400 instead.
