Allis B antifreeze in oil

Hello All, i have a 47 B (was my fathers). when changing oil yesterday, there was about 2 quarts of antifreeze that came out when i pulled the oil drain plug. then followed by the oil. it has been sitting over the winter since about october. i remember it doing this the previous year also but very little antifreeze. now it has increased to 2 quarts. in your expert opinion, what is the most likely cause of this ? a crack ? head gasket, or sleeve ? is there a way to test ? it runs fine after i serviced it. thanks in advance.

It could be the freeze plugs in the top of the head, (WDs have them and I think the smaller B engines do too) or leaking by cylinder liner O rings. Possibly a head gasket or crack in the block. If not the cylinder head freeze plugs I would pull the pan and try and see where it is leaking from.

what Tom said then put some light air pressure on the radiator (use an old inner tube valve end) o some cleaning you should see it.

I have found the most common reason that happens is a sleeve seal goes bad.

thanks everyone i really appreciate this. all the responses make sense and i will start doing some testing when i can. i WILL report back what i find

quite common for this sort of thing to happen when sittting all winter. the antifreeze will find the weak spots to leak. drain out just the amtifreeze by loosening the drain plug to the last thread and carefully let the water out. monitor this leak in the warm weather and u might not even find it leaking. if still there remove the pan and put cardboard or plastic under the tractor and watch it for a day or two. keep eliminating till u find the problem. dont just tear it down and be in the blind.

Never seen the sleeve O rings leak on a B. When a huge leak appears like yours it is a safe bet that it's the freeze plugs on top of the head. Do yourself a favor and pull the valve cover first, not the oil pan.
butch is the allis specialist.:giggle:

i will definately pop the valve cover off and see what is happening. will put a little pressure on it . appreciate all the comments
