On top of the lift Housing. There is what looks like
a fill plug... Size 7/8" I see the plug in the operators Manuel but
there is no reference to it. I took it off and there is a gasket on it.

Should there be oil in this and if so what kind and how much.

My control lever has to be almost all the way up before the arm"s
move even when the lift selector lever is all the way down.. NEED
HELP!

Suggest you invest in an operator's manual, Agco dealers can get them for you, or you could pay a little more, and buy a reprint, from jensales.

I bought the Operators Manual. And there are pictures that show the plug. But no reference to anywhere in the book !

Maybe get the shop manual for it. I have a D17, and bought the operators manual for it. It gave basic rudimentary information. I then bought the shop manual, and there is about 10 times the amount of information in that than there is in the operators manual.

Is there a round hollow sleeve directly below it?

In the 5040 Service Manual (which should be the same as a 5045 as far as the hydraulics go), there's a schematic of the "Lift Hydraulic Conrol Valve" that shows a hex plug with a washer under the head that sounds like what you're describing.

This isn't the fill plug. It's there to contain part of the valving. The hydraulic system uses the transmission oil and the fill plug would be on the transmission housing.

There's also a smaller plug on top of the rear housing for access to the Lift Max adjustment screw. Don't mess with it unless you have a Service Manual.

The Service Manual describes the Lift Mechanism; how to set it for different applications, and numerous adjustments for the system.
If you're having trouble with the 3-pt Lift, I'd suggest getting one.

You probably need to talk to someone who owns a 5050 because it is a destroked brother from Fiat the 5045 replaced the Romanian 5040 in 1981 it should be identical to the 5050 except the engine has about ten less cubic inches.
